San Vito Lo Capo

  • San Vito lo Capo

San Vito Lo Capo rose around the Sanctuary of San Vito Martire, which was dedicated to the nobleman of Mazara who converted to Christianity and was therefore driven out of Rome. Once he reached Egitarso, the young man began his mission in Conturrana where he was driven out again.

The town was swept away by a landslide, eliminating the infidels as divine punishment. After this event Vito was cruely persecuted. However, a year after his death, in 300, his struggles were recognized with the construction of the first cathedral, dedicated to him.

The town was actually established in 1790 and was divided into three neighborhoods: San Vito, Castelluzzo, and Macari. The vitality of this place can easily be felt – especially in occasion of the various festivals that continuously take place, such as Cous Cous Fest.

For those who are fascinated by tradition, there is Tempu ri Capuna, a fall event where one can re-discover the stories and legends connecting you to the cooking traditions of the sea.

Three kilometres of white sand, crystalline waters, and renowned seaside’s are just  few magnificent qualities that represent San Vito lo Capo.
